Volunteer
There are two ways you can volunteer with Child Helpline Cambodia.
Become a Volunteer Phone Counsellor
If you are a university student studying psychology, social work, social sciences, humanities or law in Phnom Penh you may be eligible to apply to be a Child Helpline Cambodia volunteer phone counsellor. This is a great way for you to gain work experience and complete community service.
The volunteer program includes a comprehensive three month training program facilitated by our Counselling Supervisor. Topics include phone counselling, risk assessment, child protection and child rights, Cambodian law, frequently asked questions, how to deal with challenging calls and self-care. People who successfully complete the training program will then be placed on a probation period and receive on-going support from our Counselling Supervisor.
Volunteer phone counsellors receive a gasoline stipend to help compensate for the costs of traveling to and from our call centre. At the conclusion of their work, volunteer phone counsellors who have demonstrated high commitment and performance in their duties will also receive a letter of recommendation for future employers.
Please email us at cambodiachildhelpline@gmail.com to express your interest and find out when we are next recruiting volunteers. A police criminal check and full compliance with our Child Protection Policy will be required before anyone can commence the program.
Train the Team
We are always looking for ways to build our skills from professionals in Cambodia and abroad. If you have expertise in counselling or social work, or in a specialty area that our phone counsellors or administration staff may benefit from learning about, and live or plan to visit Cambodia, you may be suitable to volunteer and provide training workshops for our team. Contact us at cambodiachildhelpline@gmail.com with more information and we will assess your experience and ideas with our needs. Volunteer trainers will not have direct contact with clients.
